2001: A Space Odyssey - Stanley Kubrick´s Revolutionary Sci-Fi Masterpiece

2001: A Space Odyssey is a Sci-Fi epic film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. This movie was Kubrick´s 8th film released during his lifetime and grossed $56,882,481 million dollars in the United States. The film is rated G for general audiences.

The story takes place as a voyage by astronauts, scientists, and the sentient

supercomputer HAL to Jupiter to investigate an alien monolith. I watched this movie with my brother and my dad in our bedroom in our house around 7:00 pm on Saturday this past weekend.

One positive I found was that this film has a really deep and thought provoking story about the birth of humanity and how AI could take over our lives and turn on us at any second. Another positive is the cinematography and product design. It is absolutely breathtaking and really feels ahead of its time in terms of sets and thought processes behind the storyline and themes throughout the film. The third positive I had was that HAL 9000 is probably one of the greatest villains in cinema history because of his creepy demeanor, deep voice, and how he turns on Frank and David throughout the film. The only negative I have about this movie is that while the film´s pacing is atmospheric and effective, there are times where the pacing can be a little too slow. Some scenes can drag at times because of its pacing.

Verdict: To conclude, 2001: A Space Odyssey is simply a masterpiece in both the Sci-Fi film genre and overall film/cinema history. Sure, the pace is slow at times, but that doesn't take away from how much of a groundbreaking achievement this movie actually is.
